Obviously, this past weekend was spent following the path and aftermath of Hurricane Ike as it ploughed through Texas affecting so many of our friends and family. The BBC and international media really latched onto Galveston official’s plea to the island’s unprotected west side to evacuate or “Face almost certain death”, becoming the event’s buzzwords here. Except they did embellish a bit… twisting the context to include Houston and then all of Texas.
I have a certain disdain towards the over-accentuated headlines that some media establishments will use to grab attention. But that’s another blog entry for another time.
I might even discuss Jim Cantori.
While displaced for a bit, all of our family members made it through the ordeal.
To all our friends and readers, please comment to this post (IF you have power) to let us know you are ok.
On a more upbeat note, we did enjoy a nice evening (in between songs at the piano bar) this past Saturday visiting with my cousin Cindy and her partner Adrian as they were travelling through London on a European adventure of their own. Amy is also practicing her pirouettes in anticipation of spinning on a mountain top somewhere in Austria as in a few short weeks we finally get to take that Sound of Music tour.

Ouellette's are OK. We had about the same damage as most. Fence, roof, and some leaks. David and Paula, Bill and Marianne the same. Still no power here and at Paula's. Centerpoint energy is giving an estimate of beyond Sept. 22 for getting our power back on! Lord I hope not! MO
The Gregory's faired well. Mainly just fence issues. We have power, but most of the neighborhood is still in the dark. I feel somewhat guilty sleeping with comfort yet the sounds of generators coming through our windows.
Apparently the Astro's haven't faired as well. Ugh. Amy needs to get back her ASAP and bring the good charma with her! Time is running short.
Bujnoch's/Monroe's fared well (minus one windshield). No power though, so I have been bunking at your eldest's home (as they have TV and Internet!)
Well it is Monday morning and we are more fortunate that some-power was reestablished Thursday evening and the Internet just came back on-Thank Goodness.
Lost almost the entire fence and a roof section over Lesley's room, so we have had water damage throughout her room, the master bath and master bedroom. It could have been significantly worse.

Ouellette's just got back power after 11 days. Actually we were just starting to get used to our house being at 83 degrees (F) during the day. Rebuilt the back fence. Should be getting my insurance check anyday.

We all have our power back on, Mom and Joe's came back on Friday the 19th in the evening, we got ours that Sunday. Sheila's came back on sometime the week before. We all pretty much had very little damages, I am sure you have talked to mom with theirs and the lake house. Unfortunately Bobby's mom wasn't so lucky. Her comples lost there roof and ruined the 4th and 3rd floor. None of the residents can return until they rebuild, they are looking at about 6 months. The good news my kids are going back to school tomorrow. Sheila's went back on Monday.
